Megan’s StyleMint Review

As we all have previously mentioned, Lisa rocks and allowed us the opportunity to try out different shopping clubs. Thanks Lisa! My club this month? StyleMint.

What is StyleMint you ask? Well, it’s similar to the other shopping clubs in that it’s a membership site but for T-shirts. I LOVE t-shirts! Seriously, they are my drug of choice. So of course I was head over heels and just had to check them out! And they are designed by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson. They’ve come a long way from being little Michelle, haven’t they!

As with any membership club, you register and take your style quiz. It’s $29.99 a month, but you don’t pay until your first purchase. And, because I love you, I’m totally going to share this email they sent me AFTER my first purchase (of course they would, right?!).

For the first time I actually agreed with my style choices. When I signed up for ShoeDazzle they wanted me too try 5 inch heels. I am clumsy. That wasn’t correct. However, this is right on the money.

I’m very laid back. I like to be comfortable. I am also not a fan of anything too tight or revealing. So of course I was thrilled to be offered the Hudson shirt as one of my choices.

I love how soft the shirt is. It’s made of 50% pima cotton, 50% micro modal and comes in mushroom/ivory (featured above) and charcoal/black. However, the mushroom/ivory is currently only available in a size 5, while the black/charcoal is available in all.

I usually wear a small or x-small in tops, so I took a chance and ordered a 1. I was nervous it would be too snug, but was pleasantly surprised. It fit wonderfully.

Here’s my thoughts on the shirt:

Positives

Super comfortable
I’m very modest and don’t like things low-cut. This wasn’t too bad at all. Granted, I did wear a tank under it, but still.

Negatives

Remember, this is just a negative for me, so it may not bother you one bit, but it’s shorter in the front, longer in the back. I get very self-conscience and kept tugging at it. So then I put on a cami and felt much better.
$29.99 is a little much in my opinion for a t-shirt.

All in all I LOVED the shirt. It would look adorable with a pair of skinny jeans and boots. Or heels. The possibilities are endless!

1. What has been your most favorite vintage find?

Megan:

That’s a tough one. A friend of mine was planning a surprise wedding and she asked for help finding a dress. I went gung ho and bought three vintage white dresses. Last minute, she found one herself, but I love the ones I found so much I might dye them and keep them for myself. Oh, and recently, I thrifted a pair of mint condition vintage Frye boots for $8.99. Gotta love a deal!

Nora:

I have a pair of British brown riding boots that I have worn to death. I really need to replace them, but I cannot bring myself to get rid of them (or stop wearing them)!

2. For someone interested in thrifting, what advice would you give them?

Megan:

There are a lot of tips. my top three would be to 1. Go often. Stores restock daily, so you have the potential to find new treasures on a daily basis. 2. Look outside the box (or your size). People oftentimes throw clothes back where they don’t belong, and vintage sizes are different than current sizes. So, looking in different sections (or in the cast-off racks outside the dressing room) opens up the fab-finding potential that much more. 3. check check check. People donate things all the time without washing, fixing or caring about the condition. So mke sure to check the item for any stains, holes or imperfections.

Nora:

Megan’s answers are perfect. I might also add that it is overwhelming, so when you first start thrifting to go knowing what you want and only look in those sections. You can slowly build up to exploring the entire store.

3. What are your favorite colors?

Megan:

Old vintage refrigerator colors like avocado,mustard, teal, orange and cream.

Nora:

Avocado and granny smith apple greens and orange for sure.

4. Who is are your fashion icons?

Megan:

present: Alexa Chung, Zoe Deschanel

Nora:

5. What is your favorite item in your shop?

Megan:

The 70s open cardigan. I would have kept it myself, but it didn’t fit. I adore the colors (see #3) and the style works with pretty much any outfit!

Etsy Monday: X Mittens

Sometimes I see a shop and it takes every ounce of willpower I have not to click buy on everything. Today’s featured Etsy shop is a prime example. XMittens creates vegan recycled fleece fingerless mittens that make me all warm and fuzzy inside. The shop’s owner, Amber began XMittens when she “realized that I could create an alternative textile and apparel business that emphasizes eco-accountability, thoughtful design and material sourcing, creates well-fitting and durable items, and considers the body an exhibition space for functional art-to-wear.” And, with my love of all things organic and sustainable, this shop is totally my cup of tea!

Red extra long fingerless gloves

I love love love everything about these. The extra long length, the thumb covering, the color, and of course, that they are made from fleece is made with up to 89% recycled polyester content. Another cool feature? Each package is wrapped with the leftover material made into a skinny scarf. So it’s like two items for the price of one!

Hot Pink Recycled fingerless gloves

These hot pink gloves are a size large, but they also come in small and medium. These gloves are thumbless and have black stitching. I totally dig them.

Etsy Monday: Megan’s Etsy gifts

First, I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! And secondly, today’s Etsy Monday is going to be a little different. Rather than focusing on one Etsy shop like I normally do, I’m totally going to give you my favorite Etsy Christmas gifts. I am currently curled up in front of the fire with a cup of hot chocolate staring at the snow in Michigan. I hope you love these as much as I do, and stay warm and toasty while checking them out!

I am the worlds biggest baby when my feet are cold. Seriously, it can totally ruin my whole day. These little numbers make me happy. And they are pretty darn cute too! They come in a small/medium (6-8) and medium/large (9-11). LOVE!

This shirt literally made me jump for joy. It’s sooo comfy. And I have to give props to my hubby, as this shirt needs to be pre-ordered and he totally did that. Good job dear. This shirt comes in a small, medium, or large, with fitted sleeves and a flowy bodice. I love love love it. Gracias husband!

I have been asking for a Pandora type bracelet for awhile now. And I got one. I love love love this bead. The colors are just stunning!

Megan’s Francesca’s Collections Video Review and Vlog

I love me some Francesca’s Collections. Seriously. We have one in the mall near my home and I go there at least once a week and window shop. (Believe me, I could do some serious damage in there, but I’m trying so darn hard to be good)! So of course I was thrilled when given the opportunity to review some pretty awesome goodies!

I was given the Futuristic Dress, the Holiday Cheer tank, and the First Glimpse sweater. Check out my video review below!

The Futuristic Dress: I love this dress. I really, really do. I can see myself wearing this on numerous occassions. It’s comfortable and gives me a nice shape. Both of those things are a plus in my book! I normally wear a 6/8 and this dress is a M and fits like a M. Perfect.

Holiday Cheer Tank: Again, I love sparkle and this tank has just the right amount. It’s not too much and not too little. It also comes in black. Love.

First Glimpse sweater: This little number is on sale! It was originally $38.00, but is on sale now for $24.98. Totally doable in my opinion. Just wear something under it, unless you are way braver than me.
