In My Closet: Old Navy Polka Dot Shirts

by Laura on April 9th, 2012

I’m not one for prints by any means, but lately I’ve fallen in love with two polka dot shirts for spring from Old Navy. And best of all, if you think these two looks are cute, they are both on sale!

Marked down to $17 from $26.94 is this Red Print 3/4 sleeve button loop top.  Now unbuttoned, I will admit you may want to wear a tank on it, but the shirt can be buttoned up. I love wearing it over skinny jeans, and it’s dressy enough for work and perfect to transition into a night look – I may have even worn it on a date! I liked it so much I got the shirt in the blue (Pirate Cove) color this weekend as well. It’s perfect for spring with a light cardigan.

If you are already experiencing warmer temperatures in your neck of the woods, skip the 3/4 sleeves and consider this top instead. The Shirred Dolman sleeve top comes in short sleeves in navy blue with yellow and red polka dots. Again, I like this top over skinnys but it is not as blousy and as long as the button loop top. Still, I think it’s a fun shirt, and will also work well heading into the fall. If polka dots aren’t your thing, or are looking for a summer color, there is a raspberry punch color as well. I would have totally bought it, but I already have that color in another shirt from Banana Republic!

eShakti Offering Free Customization Throughout March

by Lisa on March 12th, 2012

free customization at eShakti

As I’ve mentioned many times in the past, I am a huge fan of eShakti. Not only are their clothes super cute and super affordable, but they offer customization for a nominal fee, which means that while they sell traditional size you can also enter your specific measurements, thus ensuring a fantastic fit.

I’ve taken advantage of this on more than a few occasions, and I love receiving clothes that I don’t need to have tailored. {I’m a shorty so everything HAS to be tailored to fit properly.}

Also, for many items at eShakti you also have the ability to do things like shorten or lengthen the skirt, or add sleeves to something sleeveless. It’s really a fun way of shopping because you can create the exact items YOU want.

But anyhoo… back to the point of this post. Throughout the month of March eShakti is offering FREE customization. Normally you’d pay a small fee to get items tailor fit to your size, but this month they’re waiving that fee. If you’ve been considering trying this out, I definitely recommend giving eShakti a twirl this month. All items at eShakti are available in sizes 0-26.

My new favorite item at eShakti just might be this Undulation Skirt:

Aren’t the colors fantastic? I also love that it buttons down the front. The skirt costs $49.95.

SAVE SOME MONEY: If you’re new to eShakti, it appears you can get a FREE $20 “gift card” when you register for the site. The gift card should be valid immediately and appears to be valid on any order.

Great Spring Styles on Sale at Old Navy

by Dory on February 23rd, 2012

It’s about 55 degrees in New York today and I just couldn’t wait any longer! I needed new, spring clothes! I went a little crazy at OldNavy.com since I had $100 gift card leftover from Christmas and through midnight tonight, you can save 15% using the code ONEXTRA15!

I wear dresses about 85% of the time, so my closet is definitely lacking in cute tops. I’ve been seeing tons of inspirational outfits with jeans, white pants, black pants and skirts, so I decided to focus mainly on fun, bright tops!

Here’s what I got! I think this sailboat top is so freaking adorable and I love the nautical theme!

Megan’s StyleMint Review

by Megan on January 25th, 2012

As we all have previously mentioned, Lisa rocks and allowed us the opportunity to try out different shopping clubs. Thanks Lisa! My club this month? StyleMint.

What is StyleMint you ask? Well, it’s similar to the other shopping clubs in that it’s a membership site but for T-shirts. I LOVE t-shirts! Seriously, they are my drug of choice. So of course I was head over heels and just had to check them out! And they are designed by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson. They’ve come a long way from being little Michelle, haven’t they!

As with any membership club, you register and take your style quiz. It’s $29.99 a month, but you don’t pay until your first purchase. And, because I love you, I’m totally going to share this email they sent me AFTER my first purchase (of course they would, right?!).

15% off PLUS free shipping when you use the code MEMBER15. It only applies to new members on their first purchases. Enjoy!

For the first time I actually agreed with my style choices. When I signed up for ShoeDazzle they wanted me too try 5 inch heels. I am clumsy. That wasn’t correct. However, this is right on the money.

I’m very laid back. I like to be comfortable. I am also not a fan of anything too tight or revealing. So of course I was thrilled to be offered the Hudson shirt as one of my choices.

StyleMint

I love how soft the shirt is. It’s made of 50% pima cotton, 50% micro modal and comes in mushroom/ivory (featured above) and charcoal/black. However, the mushroom/ivory is currently only available in a size 5, while the black/charcoal is available in all.

Make sure you check the size chart!

Size                                                           Bust         Waist              Hips

Our Size Bust Waist Hips
1 XS-S (2/4) 35 27 37
2 S-M (6/8) 36 28 38
3 M-L (8/10) 37 29 39
4 L-XL (10/12) 38 30 40
5 XL (12/14) 39 31 41

I usually wear a small or x-small in tops, so I took a chance and ordered a 1. I was nervous it would be too snug, but was pleasantly surprised. It fit wonderfully.

Here’s my thoughts on the shirt:

Positives

  • Super comfortable
  • I’m very modest and don’t like things low-cut. This wasn’t too bad at all. Granted, I did wear a tank under it, but still.

Negatives

  • Remember, this is just a negative for me, so it may not bother you one bit, but it’s shorter in the front, longer in the back. I get very self-conscience and kept tugging at it. So then I put on a cami and felt much better.
  • $29.99 is a little much in my opinion for a t-shirt.

All in all I LOVED the shirt. It would look adorable with a pair of skinny jeans and boots. Or heels. The possibilities are endless!

I totally recommend signing up and checking out StyleMint. You will fall madly in love! Oh, and don’t forget to use the code MEMBER15 for 15% off!

by Megan on January 9th, 2012

Do you watch Mad Men? Well, doesn’t this skirt totally have that Mad Men feel?! And the color! Oh the color! I die.

Two Birds Boutique

Vintage 70s Delicate Sweater

I am smitten with this sweater. The delicateness of the details, the color, and the doily collar just make it such a classic. The flower embroidery comes in lavendar, peach, rose and mauve. LOVE.

Two Birds Boutique Vintage Tunic

This tunic is adorable. I am not a huge fan of tight stuff on me personally, so I tend to lean towards the tunic route. I think these colors are great, too!

And don’t forget your 20% off! Now through January 11, enter NEWYEAR. And if you aren’t able to shop this week, check out the deal breakdowns below using the coupon code!

 January 1 – 11: 20% off

January 12 – 21: 15% off

January 22 – 31: 10% off

Megan and Nora were kind enough to answer some questions. Enjoy!

1. What has been your most favorite vintage find?

Megan:
That’s a tough one. A friend of mine was planning a surprise wedding and she asked for help finding a dress. I went gung ho and bought three vintage white dresses. Last minute, she found one herself, but I love the ones I found so much I might dye them and keep them for myself. Oh, and recently, I thrifted a pair of mint condition vintage Frye boots for $8.99. Gotta love a deal!

Nora:
I have a pair of British brown riding boots that I have worn to death. I really need to replace them, but I cannot bring myself to get rid of them (or stop wearing them)!

2. For someone interested in thrifting, what advice would you give them?

Megan:
There are a lot of tips. my top three would be to 1. Go often. Stores restock daily, so you have the potential to find new treasures on a daily basis. 2. Look outside the box (or your size). People oftentimes throw clothes back where they don’t belong, and vintage sizes are different than current sizes. So, looking in different sections (or in the cast-off racks outside the dressing room) opens up the fab-finding potential that much more. 3. check check check. People donate things all the time without washing, fixing or caring about the condition. So mke sure to check the item for any stains, holes or imperfections.

Nora:
Megan’s answers are perfect. I might also add that it is overwhelming, so when you first start thrifting to go knowing what you want and only look in those sections. You can slowly build up to exploring the entire store.

3. What are your favorite colors?

Megan:
Old vintage refrigerator colors like avocado, mustard,  teal, orange and cream.

Nora:
Avocado and granny smith apple greens and orange for sure.

4. Who is are your fashion icons?

Megan:
past: Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren
present: Alexa Chung, Zoe Deschanel

Nora:
Past: Audrey Hepburn, Francoise Hardy, Mia Farrow
Present: Alexa Chung, Kate Moss, Sienna Miller (apparently I wish I was British).

5. What is your favorite item in your shop?

Megan:
The 70s open cardigan. I would have kept it myself, but it didn’t fit. I adore the colors (see #3) and the style works with pretty much any outfit!

Nora:
Any and all of our boots! I am a freak for vintage riding and cowboy boots. I also adore the green floral and lace chiffon maxi dress.
