While what I’m about to post about now isn’t a TRUE DIY, it’s a pretty helpful trick to have in your pocket and is something that could save you plenty of money in the long-run, especially if you’re planning a wedding. Plus, we’re going to build another DIY project around this “DIY” soon.
When I first started my wedding planning I knew I’d need a couple of stamps. The first one I purchased was a custom address stamp. I bought this from the woman that designed my wedding invitations and paid $50 for it. I thought that seemed reasonable at the time considering it was custom calligraphy and I had no idea how much money it cost to make a stamp.
I don’t regret buying that stamp, or the two that followed, but since then I’ve learned a little trick: Having a custom rubber stamp made doesn’t cost much at all! Earlier this week I had a stamp made using a small piece of art from my invitation suite and it cost less than $20. I went through Simon’s Stamps and it took 48 hours for my stamp to arrive. Rubberstamps.net appears to offer stamps that are slightly cheaper, though I cannot attest to their quality or shipping times.
Of course, if you order your own stamp you need to submit the artwork. Do you have a friend that can design something for you? Is it something you can type or design yourself on the computer? If so, you can save yourself the hefty design fee you may otherwise pay to someone on Etsy.
Now that I know how easy and inexpensive it is to get a custom stamp made I feel like a whole new world has opened up to me. I can get stamps made for anything! The nice thing about stamps, of course, is that they don’t “expire” in any way. Spend a bit to get a stamp made and it’s something you can use forever!
