Fab Store Alert: Find Designer Home Items for Less at HomeGoods

by Lisa on October 6th, 2011

HomeGoods Haul

This morning I was invited to a blogger event at one of HomeGoods‘ Chicago locations {600 N Michigan Ave}, which couldn’t have been more perfect timing.  While I have shopped at HomeGoods in the past, it had been a few years since I’d stepped inside one.  Now that we’ve been reacquainted, all I can think is: HOLIDAY SHOPPING!

HomeGoods is fab because they have the same designer items you’ll find at your big box stores, but for a fraction of the retail price.  I saw some amazing brands as I was was walking through the aisles: Cynthia Rowley, Lenox, Ralph Lauren, Kate Spade…  None of it was full price.  Getting Kate Spade at a discount without waiting for a sample sale? Incredible.

In fact, check this out:

HomeGoods Kate Spade{look how artsy Instagram lets me be. ;) } You can’t really tell here, but there’s a $20 Kate Spade mug in this beautiful box.  {Wouldn’t this make a fab gift for a coworker? or friend? or me?}  The cost of the mug at HomeGoods is $9.99.

At Rue La La’s Kate Spade sale today they had a couple of mugs … for $12.90.

No brainer here on what’s the better deal!

So anyhow, back to the event.  When we arrived they paired us into groupings to play “The Price is Always Right,” a more fun version of “The Price is Right” where we had to guess the price of a few items sold at HomeGoods.  I was paired with Nikia from ChiTown Fashionista and Stacey from Evolving Stacey.  Let’s just say that the person who blogs about sales did abysmally.  Nikia and Stacey were really great at figuring out the HomeGoods prices and walked away with some gift cards!

After the games HomeGoods armed us with $50 gift cards and it was time to shop.  There were so many items I wish I could have taken home with me today.  Case in point:

I considered changing the colors of my wedding so I could snag all of those wonderful cake plates.  {Sure, I could change the color of the ribbon, but that would be way too much work.}  And that lamp. I would die to have that lamp somewhere in my house.

Phil, HomeGoods’ incredible Media Relations Manager, was on hand for the event and told us that part of why HomeGoods’ prices are so cheap is because they don’t advertise the name brands you’ll find in the stores.  It’s part of the agreement they have with the companies.  He didn’t use this particular example, but why would you go to Nordstrom to pick up the fab Cynthia Rowley frame above when you could get it at HomeGoods for just $12.99?  You might have to look a little harder to find the name brands at HomeGoods because you won’t walk in the door and see huge signs jumping out at you, but believe me, they’re there.

While I wanted all of the items above, I clearly had no problem shopping this morning.  The image at the top of this post shows you all of the loot I took home with me.

Here are my treasures:

  • Small Retractable Leash – normally $14 – $6.99 at HomeGoods
  • Cute Doggy Waste Bags Dispenser – normally $10 – $4.99 at HomeGoods
  • Travel dog bowl – normally $8 – $3.99 at HomeGoods
  • Wood @ Sign – normally $48 – $24.99 at HomeGoods
  • Neoprene Oven Mitt – normally $6 – $3.99 at HomeGoods
  • Set of 2 Neoprene Pot Holders – normally $6 – $3.99 at HomeGoods
  • Smith & Thompson 11×14 frame – normally $16 – $12.99 at HomeGoods
  • Lane Decorative Accessories 8×10 frame – normally $16 – $7.99 at HomeGoods
  • Silver 11×14 frame – normally $24 – $12.99 at HomeGoods
  • The Frame Gallery Collection 8×10 frame – normally $16 – $7.99 at HomeGoods
  • Chicago Map Canvas Print – normally $60 – $29.99 at HomeGoods

All of this amounted to a $224 retail value, but I spent $120.89 at HomeGoods.  That’s pretty good shopping, I think.

I’m most excited about the Chicago Map Canvas Print and the large @ sign.  I have been looking for ways to decorate my apartment that are more fun, and these items completely fit the bill.  I couldn’t believe the price on the Chicago print – I can’t buy a Chicago poster for $29.99, let alone a piece of art that’s ready to hang!

I kid you not, HomeGoods is getting added back as one of my regular shopping haunts.  I had too much fun, and I can’t ever resist a good designer deal!

Disclosure: HomeGoods provided me with $70 in gift cards {I won some more that I didn’t recap!}, but you can tell from the total that I spent some of my own money and I love everything I purchased.

Hey Chicago: Come Out to the Launch Party for the Nike Chicago LunarGlide+ 3 on Saturday

by Lisa on September 29th, 2011

Nike is holding an event this Saturday, October 1, to celebrate the launch of the Chicago LunarGlide+3 shoe.  Nike commissioned local Chicago artist Tara D to create a Chicago version of the LunarGlide+3, a running shoe that delivers superior stability, ultra-soft cushioning and a secure fit, just in time for the October 9 Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

Check this beauty out:

Chicago LunarGlide+3 shoe

Chicago LunarGlide+3 shoe

Gorgeous shoe, right?  I love the turquoise laces and the red sole.  Two of my favorite colors together in one shoe?  Perfection.  Wearing something this hot might actually inspire me to get to the gym more than once per month week.

Come on out to the launch party this Saturday to see them in person.  It’s going to be a fab time and there will be music by DJ Markyboy, food, drink, and raffles to enter.  There will also be a Fall Running Fashion/ Marathon Collection Preview.

Plus, the designer of the shoe – Tara D – will be in attendance, as well as a rep from Nike giving pointers on how to stay safe if you’re running in the fall and winter.  {This is extra important, runners!  It’s getting dark really early these days, as well as cold and wet.}

Important Details:

The launch party for the Chicago LunarGlide+3 shoe will take place at 2350 N Clark St, which is just south of Fullerton.

Date: October 1, 2011

Time: 3 – 5 p.m.

Cost: FREE! Just be there!

Disclosure: In exchange for this post I will receive a pair of Chicago LunarGlide+3 running shoes and a marathon shirt.  With that being said, I always recommend checking out free and fun events in this city, so the shoes didn’t affect my opinion that this is the place you should be on Saturday.  Plus, these shoes really are incredible-looking and it should be a great time.

Crazy Sale: 75% Off Designer Duds at She Boutique

by Lisa on August 3rd, 2011

She Boutique

It’s not often you see a 75% off sale, but right now She Boutique is taking 75% off EVERYTHING they sell online.  {She Boutique is a Chicago-area store with a great online presence.}

She Boutique specializes in high-end items, so what you’ll find at this sale are items that are rarely – if ever – 75% off anywhere else.

Enter promo code “clearance75″ at checkout to receive the discount.  The sale is valid through August 5, 2011.

I am *pretty* certain they removed a lot of items from their website for this sale, or they’re just low on items as they make way for their fall selection.  The number of items they have online isn’t *incredible* but you never know when you’ll get lucky!

FOR JOSEPH - Reese Silk Top, Black

This Reese Silk Top by For Joseph originally sold for $119.  It’s currently on sale for $72.  After the 75% discount it’ll cost just $18.  Um, yeah.  Can’t really beat that price on a For Joseph top!

$1 Subs at Chicagoland Jimmy John’s Today!

by Lisa on June 9th, 2011

$1 Jimmy John's subs in Chicago June 2011

Just a reminder – as if you forgot – that if you live in Chicago you can stop by Chicago-area Jimmy John’s locations today from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. to pick up a gourmet sub for just $1!

You can’t really beat lunch for a buck, but then again, we don’t really recommend stopping by at the height of the lunch hour because every location is going to be packed.  The lines last year were incredible and we expect nothing different this year.

We recommend calling ahead to ensure that your local Jimmy John’s is participating before heading out the door.

$1 Jimmy John’s Subs Tomorrow at Chicagoland Locations

by Lisa on June 8th, 2011

I heard on my commute into work this morning that Jimmy John’s is holding their
legendary $1 sub promotion at Chicago-area Jimmy Johns tomorrow, June 9, 2011.

jimmy-johns.jpgI can’t find this verified online, but Eric and Kathy on the Mix didn’t steer me wrong last year, and I’m guessing their sources are correct this year as well.

The promotion will run from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The stores participating in this promotion were a mad-house last year during the lunch rush, so we recommend planning your lunch a little earlier or later than usual if you plan on picking up a $1 sub!  {Also, we always recommend calling ahead just to confirm that your local joint is participating.}

Gilt Warehouse Sale Comes to Chicago on March 5

by Lisa on February 25th, 2011

Gilt Chicago Warehouse Sale

I found out earlier this week that Gilt was bringing their infamous Warehouse Sale to Chicago and I totally squealed a little bit.  I’ve been so envious of Miami and NYC, previous recipients of the Warehouse Sale, and just assumed Chicago wouldn’t make the cut.

I thought wrong, however, and Saturday, March 5 is going to be chock-full of Gilt-y Goodness here in the Windy City!

The Gilt Groupe Warehouse Sale will take place at The Ivy Room at Tree Studios {12 E Ohio St.}

Tickets cost just $5 to get into this event, which will feature items for women, men, children, and the home.  {Just like a typical day at Gilt!}  When you buy a ticket you need to indicate which time you can attend: 12 p.m. – 2 p.m., 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., or 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.  You’ll have an hour and a half to shop before you’ll be asked to check out.

Of course I am posting this late, so as I’m writing this the only time slot still available is 4-6 p.m.  You CAN get on the waitlist for the other times though, and it’s definitely worth waitlisting yourself.  I was on the waitlist for a Gilt City event last week and I was able to snag the offer I wanted. It’s certainly worth a shot at the very least!

There’s no harm in shopping later though, either.  Apparently after each time slot they will be restocking the available items, thus ensuring that everyone shopping has the best experience possible!  Wouldn’t it be a drag to show up at 4 only to find nothing left but a pair of leopard print heels in a size 11?  No worries – each time slot will be equally amazing.

I know many of you don’t live in Chicago, but you can bet I’ll be attending this event next weekend and I’ll give you the inside scoop about what it’s like to shop Gilt in-person.

Meanwhile, if you live in Chicago, click here to get yourself a ticket through Gilt City!!!
