I have never hid my love affair with headbands. So, imagine my delight when I found today’s Etsy shop, Sugar Blossom Boutique! The shop’s owner, Danielle, is completely obsessed with color and nature. Just like yours truly! :)

How awesome are these?!

Etsy Monday: Chevron

by Megan on March 26th, 2012

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m totally, 100% head over heels in love with Chevron print! I love it so much that I decided to focus on my fave Chevron Etsy finds today. Enjoy!

SewGracious

Chevron Pillow Cover- SewGracious

How adorable is this?! I’m smitten. This would look lovely on my couch. And for $15 it’s totally a price that can’t be beat!

Marigold and Sage

Crosstown Bag in Green Chevron- Marigold and Sage

Confession? I have dreams of this bag. I find myself carrying it around in my dreams and it looks lovely with everything I’m wearing. I just need to make the plunge and buy it. I gave up shopping for Lent and it’s driving me NUTS! Not only is it machine washable, but the length is perfection. “Its body measures approximately 11in. deep, by 12in wide at its widest point. The strap is 23in. long when it’s doubled over at its shortest, and 40in long at its longest.”

2ChicDesign

Chevron clutch for Iphone- 2 Chic Designs

I want this clutch. And an Iphone. I guess my Droid will have to do for now. :) Anyway, at $15, this is a totally great way to get a little Chevron in my life without spending a lot. I love love love it!

What are you currently obsessed with? And do you love Chevron as much as me?

Etsy Monday: Bobbi Lewin

by Megan on March 19th, 2012

I never really realized how obsessed I was with fibers until I noticed I have blogged about them for two weeks in a row. Apparently, I’m smitten. :) And why shouldn’t I be? Check out how fabulous today’s featured Etsy shop, Bobbi Lewin is!

On another note, I took a knitting class a few months ago. It was HARD, but I became an addict. Now, I’m absolutely fascinated with crochet. And Bobbi’s pieces just make drool. I want one of everything!

Bobbi Lewin

Flower Garden Crochet Coasters

These coasters are what originally drew me into Bobbi’s shop. How darling are they?! The violet color is totally dreamy. I definitely need a set or three.

Bobbi Lewin

Snowflake Silk Crochet Necklace

Words cannot express my love of this necklace. The necklace is made of “blue Habu Tsumugi Silk yarn and a tiny steel crochet hook. The snowflake is 2 1/2 inches across and it sits on a crochet cord. The entire length of the necklace is 35 inches; it is meant to be tied behind the neck, letting the snowflake fall where you wish.”

Bobbi Lewin

Silk Brooch Pinwheel Fuchsia

Imagine this brooch on your favorite scarf! How precious! It is made of silk and the pinwheels have been reinforced with wire. I’m not a huge brooch person, but I’m definitely becoming a fan! This is totally my cup of tea.

Bobbi is offering you lovely readers a 10% discount off any ready to ship item from her shop! Just use the code Fantabulous2012. Thanks Bobbi! And, of course, Bobbi was kind enough to answer some questions. Enjoy!

1. At what age did you learn to crochet?

I had my first crochet lessons, from my grandmother, when I was about 8 or 9. I can very clearly remember going to school after having learned to crochet a chain, and making bracelets for my classmates, which gained me a little, much needed, popularity! After recent discussions with my mother and brothers, comparing dates and memories, I’ve discovered that the grandmother who I had placed in that memory was my dad’s mother, when in reality it must have been my mother’s mother. Both grandmothers were avid crocheters, so I think over time, they each played a role in my learning.

2. What was the first item you ever made?

The first thing was the bracelets, then granny squares. I have a very vague memory of making a purse, and Barbie clothes of course. This was many years ago, so those memories are foggy.

3. What is your favorite color/color combination?

Oh I am easily seduced by many different colors! I can’t really say I have a favorite, but aquas and periwinkle blues can make me swoon.

4. What is your favorite item in your shop?

The periwinkle blue flower garland is my favorite piece. www.etsy.com/listing/72702108/cottage-decor-crochet-garland-periwinkle
I love making the garlands; they just make me happy. This one I like because of the blue beads against the green thread, and the shape of the flowers.

5. What advice do you have for those just learning to crochet?

Most importantly is to just be patient with yourself and have fun with it. Learn the correct way to hold the yarn. This helps to keep the right tension, which makes a huge difference in the process. Crocheting is such a relaxing activity, and very forgiving of “mistakes”. It’s easy to throw a small project in your purse to carry with you when you know you’ll be waiting someplace, or sitting and chatting with friends.

Thanks Bobbi!

Etsy Monday: Jwrobel Studio

by Megan on March 12th, 2012

When I first came across Jwrobel Studio, I was smitten. From the description stating, “where fibers and textiles, new and old, come together to decorate you, your home, your world” I knew it was a match made in heaven.

My husband describes my taste and sense of style as ecclectic. This shop fits this description to a T. So, it was a must that I had to stop and browse the shop.

Jwrobel Studio

Daisy Fingerless gloves

I was immediately drawn to these gloves. Daisies are my favorite flower! So much so that they were my bouquet! Plus the color is quite fantastic. I know it’s almost spring, but it’s freezing out here and I have my space heater on in my office. This provide a pop of spring and will keep me warm and toasty. They are a MUST.

Shabby Chic Tea Rose

I die. This pillow is unbelievable. I am in LOVE. “Fiber: Hooked with repurposed wool on a linen foundation. Stuffed with a blend of polyfil and recycled wool. Backed with a raw silk upholstery fabric.” This would look super on my couch. Swoon.

Jwrobel Studios

Vintage Scandinavian Painted Wooden Eggs

My kitten is kind of a jerk. Anything and everything I own he feels the need to destroy. I have really wanted to decorate for Easter, but have been afraid he will break the eggs. These would be a great way to decorate, without having to worry about one heck of a cleanup! Plus, I’m totally smitten with the colors. I even love the idea that Jess suggests as using them as pulls for light fixtures. Brilliant!

Jess was kind enough to answer some questions. Enjoy!

1. What is your favorite item in your shop?

That’s such a tough question. When I look around my shop, there are so many pieces that have a story behind them. I remember the trip we were on when I found the fabric, or the earliest formings of an idea over a cup of coffee with inspiring friends. Cornered, however, I’d say the Antique Quilt Ring Pillow is my current favorite. www.etsy.com/listing/91492557/antique-quilt-ring-pillow-for-your I found the hand-sewn quilt square and hand-crocheted lace in antique shops in the Catskills. There is something very humbling about sitting down with another artisan’s work and hoping to make your own contribution to it. It’s a weighty responsibility, but also an honor. And I love how it came out. Country elegant, but a little bit rockabilly, too.

2. What was the first piece you ever created?

You know, I can’t really say what came first. This is in my DNA. There was no beginning. I’ve just always done this and can’t remember any other way.

3. How did you discover your love of fibers?

My grandmother was a seamstress, and I was introduced to a number of techniques by her. I remember how she and my grandfather would do all kinds of crafty things together in their kitchen or side by side in their armchairs. It’s really wonderful how much of that I’ve been able to capture in my adult life now, too. I relish in my creative pursuits, and I share that joy with my husband. I’m not sure if we are each other’s inspiration or creative foil, but it works.

4. What has been your most favorite creation?

Ah, that’s something I’m just finishing up now! I was introduced to rug hooking a couple of years ago and just designed a Tree of Life wall hanging. I made the first of this design to include our names and wedding date, but I’ll be offering this soon as a custom piece that I can hook to commemorate other people’s weddings, anniversaries, or births. What excites me about this the most is just how personalized this type of piece can be, far beyond the obvious variations of names and color choices. Our rug, for example includes strips of wool handed down from a great aunt, who was also a hooker. In that era, everything was recycled! We have wool from Great Uncle’s trousers and Great Aunt’s skirt. I also included some yarn in the hooking that my husband brought home for me from Tibet. It truly is a representation of our history and I look forward to being able to offer that kind of storytelling to others who may have their own little bits of life’s journey they may want to include.

Thanks Jess!

Etsy Monday: 2 Paws Up Dog Barkery

by Megan on March 5th, 2012

Today’s featured Etsy shop, 2 Paws Up Dog Barkery caught my attention for two reasons. One, the name made me giggle. :) Barkery, get it?! I love that! Two, I am intrigued by the flavor combinations that the treats come in.

2 Paws Up offers your dog a “tail wagging experience”. With treats for all occasions, from St. Patrick’s Day to the start of baseball season, your dog has a snack just for him or her! LOVE! In addition, all of Nicole’s treats are 100% natural and quality control tested by her 4 legged children. She gets their paws up of approval for sure!

2 Paws Up

Parmesan and Bacon bones

I know my parent’s dog would go NUTS for these. Plus, who, or better yet what can resist the taste of bacon. :)

2 Paws Up Barkery

Pot of Gold

St. Patty’s Day is right around the corner! Don’t forget to give your pup a little Irish cheer! This listing is for

2- Peanut Butter Pots of Gold 2 3/4 X 2 3/4
4- Peanut Butter Gold Coins 2 1/2 X 2 1/2

2 Paws Up Barkery

Peanut Butter Pup Tarts

Every morning my husband and kitten share a cup of coffee. The kitten tries to drink it and the hubby shoos him away. It’s a game that lasts until the last sip is gone. Why not get these for your pup and “share” breakfast together?!

Nicole was kind enough to answer some questions. Enjoy!

1. What made you want to start creating treats for pets?

I started back in 2007 making them for the dogs in my apartment complex. Every Wednesday you could bring your dog to the office and get a treat. Of course it was a plain old milkbone. I dropped off some samples of a peanut butter bone. Nothing fancy, just simple and plain and they were donated because of my love for dogs.

On March 16, 2008, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was living in Raleigh, North Carolina at the time. My dad moved me home so I didn’t have to take on this challenge by myself.

Dr.’s orders were to eliminate stress because that can cause a relapse. So, with the help of my family, 2 Paws Up Dog BARKERY was launched in June of 2008.

2. You say they are taste tested by your pups, which is their favorite?

It’s a tie for their favorite. Either peanut butter or salmon.

3. Which was your favorite treat/flavor combination to create?

I don’t have a favorite flavor or combination per say. I like that I can put my own twist or flare on pretty much any recipe. Whether it be a birthday cake, grain free treats for the sensitive needs pups, a peanut butter SMORE or a simple oatmeal bone. I truly love what I do for a living.

My theory is……If the 4 pawed kids are happy, then their parents are happy.

Thanks Nicole!
