I have to admit to all of you – and I hope you don’t think I am bragging – but starting a blog is seriously one of the coolest things I have ever done. I have had the opportunity to try so many incredible things that I would have never had the opportunity to do had I not started this site a few years back. I thank all of you for this because were it not for you guys coming back and reading our random, sometimes type-o filled posts, this wouldn’t be possible. So you all rock my socks. For realz.
To celebrate your awesomeness, I recommend that you check out Spa Week! Laura mentioned it last week, and it is seriously one of the coolest weeks of the year because many spas and salons offer expensive treatments for just $50! This offer comes around just twice a year, and the next dates are October 10-16, 2011. Bookings began September 12, but there are still plenty of appointments available and I urge you all to check it out. $50 for an hour or so of relaxation can’t be beat.
In advance of the upcoming Spa Week, Elizabeth Adam Salon & Day Spa here in Chicago invited me in for a few free treatments. They were incredibly generous and offered the following:
- ECHO2 Oxygen face treatment
- M’Lis Slimming, Contouring Body Wrap
- Botanical Hair Remedy by Aveda and a blow out
When they invited me in for a visit, I was pretty darn excited. I haven’t had a facial as an adult {I got one as a teenager and it lead to an awful breakout}, and I’d never had a body wrap. Would I want to try them for free? Of course!
So… as a body wrap newbie, I have to admit I was shocked at how much full-body nudity is involved. I don’t know what I expected, but if you’d told me that I’d be standing butt naked in the middle of a dimly-lit room with my legs spread and my arms out wide while a lady spread scrubs and creams all over my body, well, I would have laughed at you. But that’s exactly what happened before I was wrapped in a pound of saran wrap and allowed to lay down for about an hour.
Let me take a break here to say that the lady doing this, Simona Lazia, was
absolutely phenomenal. Not to get too personal here, but I don’t spend a lot of time standing around naked. It’s just not my thing.
The fact that Simona made me feel 100% comfortable is a real testament to her skill. If you’re in Chicago and you want to try a wrap, I HIGHLY recommend seeking out her services.
So anyhow, whilst I was marinating in my saran wrap Simona gave me the oxygen facial. I don’t remember a whole lot about the facial because I was extremely relaxed at this point. The room was dark, I was warm, and my face was getting massaged. It was heaven. Here’s the description of the facial I received:

Part of the facial actually involved spraying 100% oxygen on my face, which was kind of cool. While my face was a little red when I got home, my skin feels so soft now. The rest of my skin felt so soft after the wrap, too. Simona told me that she’d had a client that came in for weekly wraps leading up to her wedding and lost 19 pounds! The wrap I received “removes trapped waste in the connective tissue, eliminating internal disfiguring deposits and stimulating inch loss.” I know that sounds kind of gross, but it was actually kind of fun and it was definitely relaxing.
If you’ve seen any of my
videos then you know that I have super curly hair. I used to have short hair that I would blow out myself, but as I’ve let it grow I’ve stopped that entirely. The last time I straightened my hair myself it took nearly 2 hours! Never again, folks! However, I never say no to someone else offering me a blowout. If I’m being honest with you I don’t recognize any difference in my hair from the Botanical Hair Remedy, but I have fairly healthy hair to begin with.
One thing worth noting – had Elizabeth Adam not offered to let me come in and take a look and try out some services free of charge, I NEVER would have found them. They are located on the 9th floor of Water Tower Place – raise your hand if you even knew there was a 9th floor… There’s only one elevator that goes up there and it’s in the back of Water Tower near the news stand. The actual salon and spa occupies a pretty large amount of space and they do a little bit of everything – hair, nails, massages, waxing, facials, and more. This is the type of place that you can tell has had many of its customers for years – if not decades. It was packed when I was there … at 1 p.m. on a Friday.

Spa Week you can check out any of the treatments I received at Elizabeth Adam for just $50! Normally the body wrap costs $115, the facial $85, and the hair treatment $65. Needless to say, $50 is a great price.
