This morning I made it my mission to get to Target to check out the highly anticipated Missoni for Target sale. I planned on getting there at 8:05 a.m., but because I was typing up the incredible Whole Foods deal from Living Social, I ended up walking in the door at 8:14 a.m.
Granted, I live in one of the largest cities in the country so I should have been more prepared for what I saw. I wasn’t though.
This was the uber pathetic view when I walked in the store. Remember – I walked in 14 minutes after the door opened. Pretty much everything was gone.
Just one clutch and one hat remain on this shelf. I’m not sure how they escaped the stampede.
To give you a better idea of what was happening, check out this lady:
Sorry for the blurry photo, but that lady has two full carts of stuff that she’s buying and all of it was Missoni.
I am not kidding when I tell you that I watched people walk up to a section and pull every last Missoni item off the shelf and put it in their cart. {Or carts. I saw one lady with THREE carts full of Missoni.} And again, I can’t stress enough that this was just 14 minutes after the store opened.
True story – the pajama section was relatively untouched when I got there and I walked over to take a peek. This other girl was there, saw me looking, and took EVERYTHING before I could look.
The poor Target employees were still putting up some of the Missoni for Target hosiery when I was there and people were grabbing it out of their hands.
Every Target employee that I encountered was shaking their heads saying, “This is nuts.” I hope the people working the early shift get paid extra for what they were enduring this morning.
All was not lost for me as I was actually able to get my hands on the one thing I really wanted:
It’s quite lovely, and I don’t know how I got so lucky because there were only 3 left.
Lesson: If you plan on hitting up Target today for this collection, drop what you’re doing and go now. I was told that no shelves will be restocked, so once things are gone, they’re gone.
I don’t know, folks, what I saw this morning was kind of disheartening. The store was filled with ebay vultures, and in my opinion, that’s just takes all of the fun out of something as amazing as Missoni teaming up with Target.
Shopping the collection online seems to be your best bet, although I keep checking and the website is out. Go figure.
