Offermatic Offers Cash Back & Special Discounts on Items You’re Already Buying!

Offermatic

Have any of you heard of Offermatic?  They launched a few months ago, though I only heard about them yesterday when I was contacted by the company.  To say that I am intrigued doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface.

Offermatic, as you can see above, offers “automatic savings.”  Through your credit/debit cards they will track your spending and then offer special discounts that are tailored to your shopping habits.  You will receive periodic emails about the offers that are available, and all you have to do then is log into your Offermatic account, accept the deal, and be on your way.

Alright, so let’s back up here.  Here’s what LifeHacker has to say about how Offermatic works:

Free web service Offermatic uses your credit card, through the same back-end as Mint.com, to offer 40-90 percent discounts on products similar to what you’ve already purchased.

If you’re not squeamish about providing financial information to financial scanning sites like Mint.com, Offermatic is a pretty sweet deal. You register your credit cards with Offermatic through their secure system, which then scans your purchases and spits back out high-discount offers from their advertisers, made to match your interests. You won’t necessarily get coupons for the exact stores you shop at, but the examples seem to be highly related.

I just registered my own cards at Offermatic and received the following offers instantly, which are based on the data accrued through my spending:

Offermatic Deals

I will be able to purchase two movie tickets from Fandango for $6 each, I have a FREE $25 gift card to Restaurant.com at my disposal, $15 off a future $30 purchase at Amazon, and $10 off a future $20 Purchase at Target.

I think we can all agree those are pretty sweet deals!

To access the deals you log into your account, and “activate” the deals that you want.  And that’s pretty much it!  You spend as usual, and then you’ll see credits appearing on your credit card statement for the deals you’re using.

For instance, I just activated my $10 Target Rebate offer.  If I spend $20 at Target prior to March 10, I will see an automatic $10 credit appear on my credit card statement.  {Just make sure you shop using the cards you’ve registered on the site!}  And yes, you can shop online, which means that you can double up your savings by using coupons or cash-back shopping sites!

You also earn points on the site, which will help you unlock new and better offers.  You can earn points by referring friends, following Offermatic on Facebook and Twitter, adding accounts, and more.

According to this Fast Company article, Offermatic views itself as a competitor to the daily deal sites, except the deals are tailored to items you’re already buying.  If you activate the deal in your account and use it – great!  You just got yourself an extra discount.  If you activate the deal but don’t use the offer – no harm, no foul.  You’re not out any money for not using the deal, unlike when you forget to use your Groupons.

I grew up using the internet, so I’ll usually sign up for anything.  I trust that the appropriate measures are in place to protect my credit and my personal information.  It was interesting, then, to read the comments on this post by Money Saving Mom, where pretty much everyone said they absolutely would NOT use the service out of fear for giving up personal information.  In this day and age, pretty much everything on the internet is tracked, so my view is as such: Why not put your own spending habits to work for you so that you can get extra discounts? It’s not in Offermatic’s best interest to steal your credit card numbers and go on spending sprees.  If you’re still {understandably} squeamish, know that the information you provide is secure and backed by McAfee, VeriSign and TRUSTe.

Offermatic will not ask for your credit card numbers, but you will have to provide them with your online log-in information.  You’re not going to see mysterious charges appearing in your accounts, but you will see awesome discounts.  And since we’re all here because we like saving money, I highly recommend checking out what Offermatic has to offer.
