For my first Etsy Monday post (I know, it’s Tuesday, woopsie!) I thought what could be better then a giveaway?! But first, let me introduce you the Etsy shop of the week: Daffodil Boutique. Kelly, the owner of Daffodil Boutique, has been a joy to work with. Plus, her jewelry is just a lovely as her personality, which is an added bonus in my book!
Kelly uses natural materials to make elegant pieces that can be worn everyday, which is something that I just love. I am all about peace and nature, so this piece just rocks my socks!
Another great thing about Kelly is that she is super charitable. She often does charity listings, such as this one for a Tourmalated Quartz and Sterling Silver Layering Necklace.
When you purchase the above necklace, ”25% of the proceeds donated directly to Food For The Poor.” How great is that, right?! I just love that!
Kelly was kind enough to answer a few questions for you lucky readers about how she got started and what inspires her.
1. Did you always want to make jewelry?
I’ve always been an artsy type. Jewelry design in particular sprang up as a response to a purchase I made. I’d spent weeks anticipating the arrival of a bracelet. When it finally came in the mail, the product was so disappointing. Cheap materials, scratched beads, uneven strands. I kept looking at it thinking, “I could make something better than this…I could make something better than this….Wait a minute – I could make something better than this!” The next week I bought my first set of jewelry tools.
2. What is your favorite material to work with?
Sterling silver and gold filled are the favorites that I build everything else on. I love how they can become simple shapes like circles, clovers, discs and elevate them to a level of elegance. They’re natural materials, straight from the earth, but they can be molded into these beautiful, ethereal forms.
3. What was the first thing you ever made?
My first item was a modest pair of blue briolette drop earrings. It was such a challenge! Trying to figure out how hold these awkward tools, how much pressure to apply when working with the metals, and trying my darndest not to scratch the gemstone I was wrapping wire around. An hour and a handful of lost beads later, they turned out pretty good, much to my surprise!
4. Do you have a personal favorite piece in your collection?
This constantly changes, but my current favorite is the Diamond in the Rough Necklace. It’s primarily sterling silver with a focal disc that has the image of a faceted diamond stamped on it. It’s meant to be cheeky and ironic. And it’s got a little secret to it too. A natural, rough cut diamond is embedded higher up in the chain. It’s a well-made piece made with luxury materials, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously and I love that.
5. Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Everything around me – organic shapes from nature, the lines in architecture, outfits that need a perfect statement piece to match, or inspiring pieces on individuals that I think would be even better with a twist.
As previously mentioned, Kelly is super generous. With that being said, she decided to do a giveaway! A customer favorite (and hopefully now, your new fav too!) is the Wishbone necklace.
A lucky winner will receive their choice of a gold or silver necklace. So cool!!!
Ok, so here’s what you have to do! Comment below about what your favorite piece is in Daffodil Boutique’s collection. Also, tweet about this giveaway for an additional chance to win. Don’t forget to leave a separate comment that you tweeted! You can comment and tweet once per day. Oh, and the contest ends Sunday, September 12 at 12:00 noon EST.
Good luck to all and thank you so much Kelly!
