I’ve been living in Chicago for about seven years now, and while living in a big city is always fun, it’s also sometimes fun to think of new things to do.  That’s where Funsherpa comes into play.  Funsherpa sells “experiences” in and around the Chicago area.

When you head to the site you’ll see that there are many different categories of experiences to choose from.  For instance, maybe you’re looking for a group activity, or maybe you’re looking for something food-related.  There are quite a few different options.

You can purchase your experience directly from the funsherpa website.  Most experiences are discounted below what you would pay at the door, and you have the relief of knowing that your reservation is set.  There are a couple of experiences in particular that I would LOVE to check out.

Chicago Kayak Tour

For instance, I’ve never once considered kayaking anywhere in Chicago, but through Funsherpa one can take a kayak tour of Chicago with Kayak Chicago.  There are four different tours to choose from: Night, Architectural, Fireworks, and Lake.  The first three tours last three hours and the Lake tour lasts two hours.  Each of these tours costs $50.

Floatation Tank

I heard about Floatation Tanks about six months ago and I am absolutely intrigued.  Here’s a description straight from the Funsherpa website:

Floatation Tanks are designed to create a condition which is ideal for the relaxation and rejuvenation of the Mind/Body. Research shows that the effects of a two hour float session are equivalent to eight hours of deep sleep, making it one of the most efficient and comprehensive relaxation techniques available.

While “floating” you experience an intensified consciousness of the body and mind; you are able to reflect, to ponder, to explore and to refine your powers of concentration and creativity.

A Floatation Tank is an 8′ (l) x 4′ (w) x 4′ (h) enclosed structure which diminishes light and sound. Each tank holds 10 inches of water with 800 lbs. of dissolved Epsom Salts, which enable a person to float effortlessly. The water is heated to an average skin temperature (93.5F) which reduces the sensation between body and water. The tanks are fully ventilated and the water/salt solution is sterilized after each use using a combined system of ozone, concentrated hydrogen peroxide and diatomite earth filters.

Interesting, right?  This experience is $40 for two hours of floating/ sleeping.

Finally, I’d love to start doing yoga, and what better way to ease into it than with a Private Yoga Sampler?

Yoga Sampler

According to Funsherpa, this experience allows you to:

Let a private instructor Chicago’s premier eco-friendly spa, explain the basic principles and match your goals with a yoga workout that is right for you. Stretch your mind and your body as you explore a variety of invigorating and energizing poses that strengthen muscles, improve concentration, and reduce stress. Learn effective breathing techniques and poses from an advanced yogi. Experiment with different yoga disciplines in a private session.

I need all the help I can get, so this sounds wonderful!  This yoga sampler costs $75 for 60 minutes.

Interested in trying any of the above experiences?  How about I help lower the price just a little bit more?

For a limited time, enter promo code “frugalfun” at checkout and receive 10% off any of the three experiences you see above.

Discounts on top of discounts… now there’s no excuse not to get out there and explore everything this city has to offer!

The few people who have heard of floatation tanks think they're only good for relaxation, but using them has greatly improved my quality of life for a totally different reason. I have a pinched nerve in my lower back and for 6 years I suffered sciatic pain that would leave me racked with pain and soreness for up to 2 weeks at a time. Pain meds didn't work, neither did chiropractic, massage and physical therapy.

In 2001, I found the floatation tank center in Chicago before I opted for back surgery. It's 9 years later and even though I still have a pinched nerve, I now lead a normal (i.e. pain-free) life.

I also highly recommend floatation tanks for acute stress, pain from fibromyalgia, creativity enhancement (this was verified by scientific research), and fast recovery for athletes.
