Brandi Chastain

If only we were all as fit as Brandi Chastain back in the day, eh?

Thanks to all of you that submitted tips for ways that you try to stay healthy without spending a lot of money.  Over the next couple of days I’m going to share everything that you all submitted, as there are some really wonderful tips that we can all use!

Today, let’s take a gander at various forms of media – TV, internet, Netflix, magazines, DVDs… all of which can be used as a means to access inexpensive workouts.

Starting us off, Michelle from Stuttering Shell shares that it is worthwhile to look in your local paper for specials, and look for the fitness channels if you pay for cable television.

I know for me, it’s all about accountability. Actually paying for something & having to go somewhere is a bit of a motivating factor. However, spending extra money when I’m currently unemployed seems like the wrong thing to do.

Nevertheless, I am going to bite the bullet and take a class…only because there was an advertisement in my local paper for a yoga studio offering 2 weeks of unlimited classes for $10. No obligation. Pretty sweet trial deal, if you ask me!

I’m also going to MAKE myself workout at home. I have a library of workout DVDs to choose from.

Another option is our cable television. Because of the package we pay for, we have a fitness/nutrition channel and they have different exercise programs to workout along with. I will probably DVR a few and see what happens.

Ruth from This G.R.I.T.S. Tale has this great advice regarding workout videos:

Swapping workout dvds with friends. You get a variety without the cost.

Ruth also added a great source of free workout information that can be found online:

Check out the fitness magazine sites. They post the workouts put into the magazines.

Heidi from The Heidi Diaries has another great tip to easily and cheaply watch/follow different workout videos:

Using Netflix to try out DVDs. With Netflix you can watch some of them instantly online instead of waiting for it in the mailbox. I tried it last night and worked great!

What other ways do you use various media sources to access inexpensive workouts?
