I’m excited to share this week’s Etsy Monday seller because as you all know I’m a huge lover of any and all handbags and clutches. My Patterned Mind makes some absolutely amazing clutches and as you might imagine, the patterned fabric is divine!
This Whitlyn Clutch is in a pattern I’ve never seen before – and which I love. A lot.
I am not a huge pattern person, so I think this is a great amount. And yes – I mean for the entire outfit. This clutch would add a touch of fancy to any plain outfit.
Next up, look how cute this Blue, Tan, and Cream Blossom Clutch is with the differing designs on the front and back:
I saw this mini Winter Berries and Leaves Clutch and immediately wondered if it would be big enough to house my Blackberry. I’m sure my trust ‘berry would appreciate having it’s own beautiful tote.
Marisha, the owner of My Patterned Mind, was kind enough to answer a few questions about her shop and the wonderful clutches housed therein. Enjoy!
1. When did you first start designing clutches?
I started making clutches in November of ’08, so It’s going a on a year now. Wow, I didn’t realize it’s been that long!
2. How did you decide this was something you wanted to do?
To be honest, it was completely random. I was browsing the Internet one day, came across some clutches, and thought to myself- I wonder how you make those! So I did some research, ran off and bought a basic sewing machine for beginners, and taught myself how to sew. There was quite a learning curve that I had to overcome back then, but I did indeed make it over that hurdle (only after a lot of sweat and tears lol).
3. Where do you find the inspiration for your designs?
I find that I’m inspired by the most random things! Pieces of modern art, home decor items, billboards and even my dreams manage to inspire me (I have literally jumped up out of my bed a couple of times in the middle of the night to go write down an idea). The fashion trends also provide me with a great source of inspiration, so I’m always browsing through fashion magazines. I like to just flip through them and if something catches my eye on a page, I’ll just tare it out and paste in my “Book of Inspiration.”
4. Do you accept orders from brides and/or wedding parties (or other large groups)?
Yes, I am open to taking bridal orders as long as I’m given enough time to produce the clutches. I’m in graduate school at the moment and my schedule is quite hectic. So I really have to be given sufficient time that will allow me to prepare for and accommodate large orders. However, I have made a couple of clutches for brides to use on their wedding day, and I am currently in the process of working out the details for an order of bridesmaids clutches. Thus, if I can at the time, I definitely will.
5. Do you customize clutches?
Yes, to a degree. I tend to work with remnant pieces, so most of the time I’m not able to make replicas of my clutches. In fact, I have yet to make an exact replica of any of my clutches. However, I have had customers approach me about making similar clutches to ones that have been previously sold, and I’m very open to that. As long as I have the fabric to construct the clutch – they can cutsomize away! In regards to constructing clutches from the customer’s own vintage fabric, that makes me nervous and I try to stay away from that type of customization. But for the most part, I’m really open to hearing ideas and requests, and if I can make them happen, I will!
6. Is there one design that you would call a favorite?
I just recently started making silk clutches, and I have fallen completely in love with them. My favorite thus far would be the Rustic Rose Silk Clutch! It has a sweet dainty feel to it yet still makes that bold fashion statement I strive for at My Patterned Mind with the large rose bud.

7. Do you plan to branch into any other type of bag, or focus predominantly on clutches?
Definitely! I get bored working with the same thing over and over, so I often find myself searching for new designs and projects. I currently have a few ideas in the works for new clutches and handbags, so please stay tuned for those.
