As an avid fan of Project Runway, I was super excited when Hachette Book Group contacted me with an opportunity to review the new Christian Siriano book, Fierce Style: How to Be Your Most Fabulous Self.
Alongside Season 2 contestant Daniel Vosovic, Christian Siriano is one of my all-time favorite PR contestants. He’s a little guy with a huge attitude and enough confidence to fill a room. And he made for really entertaining TV. I never got tired of him calling something “Fierce,” even if he did say it approximately 200,000 times per episode.
And let me tell you – If you are a fan of the way Christian speaks, I promise you will enjoy how this book is written. He starts the book by directing you toward the glossary so that you can learn the definition of such Christian-speak as the word “ferosh,” which is something that’s totally fabulous but not quite fierce. The Christian-speak is kind of fun, but it’s also one of my least favorite parts of the book. At times the book reads like the diary of a 14-year-old-girl.
I loved all of Christian’s behind-the-scenes pictures, both from today and those he provided of himself as a kid. There’s a fab story about his love of The Wizard of Oz that’s heartwarming, along with an accompanying adorable picture. Christian provides lots of great tips for how to dress well and develop your own (fierce) sense of style. (Although I do disagree with Christian on one big thing: flannel should never be “in,” either for men or women, and even if it’s designed by the great Vivienne Westwood.)
There’s a section of the book that I loved checking out, “Looking Fierce on a Budget.” In this section Christian talks about budget shopping at stores such as Old Navy, Zara, H&M, Target, Forever 21, etc. My only complaint – this section isn’t long enough!
In short, this book is a fun and quick read. If you can get past all of Christian’s slang you’ll find a book that’s full of great tips for maximizing your closet so that you’ll be the fiercest hot tranny mess possible. (See page 231 of Fierce Style: How to Be Your Most Fabulous Self for the definition of hot tranny mess.)
And thanks to Hachette Book Group one of you fantabulous readers will have the opportunity to win your own copy of Christian Siriano’s Fierce Style: How to Be Your Most Fabulous Self!!
